Top notch dining. Huge portions of perfectly prepared schnitzel. Tasty bacon mushroom sauce on my Hunter schnitzel. Even the red cabbage was great, and I normally hate that stuff. Small intimate atmosphere. A small nit pick - and I mean very minor - is the speed of service is a bit poor. But when the food arrives it is incredible so the point is essentially moot. I have put off coming here for 2.5 years. That was a mistake. Das Schnitzelhaus is easily in my top 3 restaurants in Canmore and will certainly be visited again by me. Excellent!
Had a wonderful dinner there last night. The food and service were great too. Hot tip: the large pretzel is quite large. Get it to share for 2 or 3 as an appetizer. I would recommend phoning ahead for a reservation especially during weekends and peak season.
Large portions of schnitzel that were good; I had the potato rosti with mine which was a bit of a disappointment as I felt there was a bit too much flour and it wasn’t as crispy. My husband had the spaetzel which had a curry flavour and was better. What looked really good that we did not order was the beef roulade. Restaurant had excellent service and was timely. We had a complimentary salad plate which had an excellent German potato salad and carrot salad which was very authentic. Would come back and try the other dishes. Was very nice to sit on the patio on a warm evening in May.
What can I say about this genuinely great spot. Food was excellent, service was spot on! Portions were HUGE so we opted for the smaller half portions and still left stuffed. Absolutely the very best warm pretzel I've had in my life. Will repeat with any upcoming visits. Keep up the great work Schnitzelhaus.
We wanted some good German food and wasn't disappointed. The portion are huge. My kids ordered the small Schnitzel, which was a normal size any where else. I had the pork hog and that was fantastic. Reminded me of October Fest in Munich. The Schnitzel was great. The same my mom always made most Sundays. Overall we loved the food. The highlight was the dessert. The Apfelstrudel with icecream was to die for and I hadn't eaten a black forest cake so good in a very long time. We will be back
Pleasantly surprised, we went for lunch; we ordered the brisket sandwich with potato salad. It came with a side salad, very fresh, lots of textures and flavors that stood out. The portion of meat in the sandwich, very soft, tasty and abundant. The service was very good, pleasant and outstanding to deliver a good experience. I recommend it and I would love to come back at dinner time.
Eating at Das Schnitzelhaus took me back to my trips to Germany. They serve a variety of traditional German foods ranging from sauerkraut to schnitzel, apple strudel and more. We got the Parmesan Herb Schnitzel and The Big Sampler. The schnitzel had a flavorful breading that provided a nice crunchy texture to the veal, and the sauce took the flavor to the next level. The spatzle was okay... it needed a little more salt and had too much butter. The Big Sampler did not disappoint and offered a taste of everything. They ran out of pork chop late in the evening, so it was replaced with a pork hock. The sauerkraut, cabbage, and mustards paired nicely with the sausage and pork hock, offering a sweet and tangy break to my palette. The pork hock was tender and fell right off the bone. And while this is the least exciting thing on the plate, the fries were still made to perfection! Service was excellent and accommodating to dietary restrictions, and the outdoor ambience offered a beautiful view of the charming town and surrounding mountains.
We had a very relaxing dinner in this quaint restaurant with friendly and attentive servers. The good was fresh and served in huge portions, perfect for a chilly November night. Finished with a schnapps that would blow your socks off but keeps you warm on the long walk back to the lodge.
